STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS

All Saints has accepted the TITHE as the standard of giving in the Church. The word Tithe is an Old English word meaning “tenth”.  The ancient Hebrew people, the Jews, were commanded (see Deuteronomy 14:22) to “truly tithe all the increase of thy seed.”  For convenience they were permitted to convert the “seed” (crop harvest, or gain from their business, pay from their job, herds or the result of their labor) into money and give a tenth in currency. This formula for supporting the work of God suggests that we set aside 10 per cent of our income for the work of the Lord.

The “Biblical Tithe” is accepted and practiced by many families in our parish. Simply put, the Tithe is God’s plan for caring for the life and ministry of God’s people.  Some people say they can’t afford to Tithe.  God’s plan is just too expensive. They may think that they would not have enough money if they were to tithe. Others take the position that God is God; therefore has no need for money or offerings. Perhaps the most common reason many people don’t tithe is that they don’t accept His plan or His Lordship in their lives.  Simply put, many of us lack the ability to trust God.

Prayerfully consider God’s plan, the tithe, and trust God to provide.
